Update, Hope You Follow

A change of blog.  I’m still writing about the same ideas, but I feel I need to expand this blog to include stories of how people are shaping and changing the environments around them for the better.

A lot of what I write on this blog will be biased in some way shape or form, but I hope it spurs discussion and gets people think and acting.  Today’s world where were so influenced by media and others, it seems we’ve almost lost the ability to argue or critically think about what others say.  This may be partly because were all so damn busy.  But it’s important to think about the thing that happen around you and how they should be shaped better.  If you don’t, you’ll see a place change negatively in the wrong way rather than the right.

Charging the Future

                                 Tesla Supercharger

This is neat article.  Tesla has begun building super charging stations for their model s electric car.  They are certainty bringing the future to us now, if electric cars become the way to go.  It will be interesting to see how successful this program becomes and whether or not electric care are really a reality.
Check it out,,, http://news.cnet.com/8301-11128_3-57520172-54/tesla-announces-supercharger-network/

I Phone 5 Question

With record sales of i phone 5's happening not long ago, I must ask what happens with all the wasted i phone 4's that people seem to think are of no use to them anymore.  My guess is that the phone is either recycled for parts and plastic, which is great and all, but its still waste in a sense.  Did we really need the new i phone when the one we had still worked fine.  Some people probably would say i'm crazy, but just imagine how much plastic and metal, have gone to the trash or recycled because a new shiner fancy object came out.    Just a thought

Thawing tundra

Researcher Shannan Sweet working in the Alaskan tundra in summer. Natalie Boelman says thawing of the tundra could release vast amounts of carbon dioxide and methane into the atmosphere.

Interesting article today on CNN.  In it they talk about the rising threat of thawing tundra.  As this tundra defrosts it releases massive amounts of carbon that had once been frozen.  As we all know this causes damage to our air quality as well as ozone layer.  Seems like real issues seem to get heightened and then swept under the rug.  But there are still so many environmental issues we need to talk.  We can talk about job creation and so on but once we destroy our planet won’t really matter if we have jobs or not.

Stem

Stem

Can It really get any fresher than that image.  That is stem a product recently developed by Quirky.  Whats amazing is that all you do is stab a the plastic piece in the top and it sprays the juices out for cooking and so on.
In a world where we are starting to obsess over fresh foods, I cant imagine a better way to get fresh juices when cooking.  The next step in this evolution should be making it drain the juice into  a cup, but hey its a good start, you can find this product at the link below.

Reinventing The Way We Design

Quirky is stepping up the game by creating a place where the average user can submit their idea and with some luck and talent see it come to life threw a massive community of thinkers and creators.  I have navigated and came close to success but have not achieved my ultimate goal of creating a product that changes the world, or at least makes it a better place.
Though recently it seems trained professional and graphic artist have started to dominate the scene through creative renderings and drawings.  Maybe the quality of production is going up, but is it fundamentally losing its quality of allowing an average person to succeed, or is it becoming more exclusive in helping designers see their dreams.  Check out the link below, its extremely interesting in all regards and innovative.

Meat Prices Will Skyrocket, as Corn Dies

With corn Production on verge of failing for the year, due to droughts.  It’s a good warning and idea to stock up on meat, because it can be guaranteed meat prices will sky rocket.

Why? well corporations decided that corn fed beef is the best way to produce fat cows fast.  This means more meat production and more sales, even though the cows end up living miserable lives, cant walk, and stomach problems, disease and various other factors.  But in the end we can all see why one source of food means devastation for us all.  Corn dies, beef dies, food production sky rockets.  Everyday products with corn syrup will see jumps in prices.  Its amazing how many product are made of corn and we don't even realize it.  maybe now the country will finally start to understand what we've been doing wrong.

Chevrolet Spark Issue

      2013 Chevrolet Spark Mini Car

Here's a real disaster for Chevrolet brilliant ideas when it come to green technology.  Great everyone is on the electric bandwagon, which is a step forward even though the common ways of producing electricity are wrong, but that's not the point at the moment.  Here Chevrolet comes up with the Spark, an all electric car designed for the city.....? Chevrolet writes on their site "Designed especially for city living, the Spark mini car slides easily into those tight parking spots that other cars don’t dare dream about. That’s less time looking for parking and more time spent exploring."  Right but uhh vast majority lives in apartments where you would lack and form of ability to charge your car on a daily basis.  But all yall are saying wait what? lots of people have row homes and parking spots here and there, yea sure, but the sprawling of the city has caused the problems of the city.  Lets take Philadelphia as an example it lacks a high density per square foot meaning less people downtown, less shopping, less eating, less public transportation riding.  People spread out city got larger, now the city cant afford to keep with the road repairs, pipe repairs, trash pickup, that spreads out over vast amount of land with less people, where as NYC with higher density has a much easier time maintaining their city.
Now back to the point the goal is to create higher density meaning more people living up, meaning more apartments, meaning no means of purely electric cars not working or having places to charge.  I sure as hell wouldn't buy one if i live in the city.  Now the gas electric would work much better in this situation, but here's the link so you can make your opinions on what I believe is the wrong move.

Bacon For Cheap or Expensive

I love food and I love learning where food comes from and how its prepared, but sometimes you run into situations where you just don't know if production situation meet your moral guidelines food.  This brings up a recent topic in media gestation crates where pigs are raised in individual crates allowing them to lay around but not move around.  The reason this is done is that these animals are very aggressive and competitive for food making it hard for younger smaller ones to grow up in to healthy fatty piggies that we all love and can eat.
Now the controversy is that some people feel this isn't right and when they see these pigs squirming in their cells they get up set and say what the hell I'd never want to live like that, and i agree its a hard thing to say.  On the other hand you have the Veterinary Medical Association says well actually it may be hard to look at but it works fairly well, the pig grow up big and chubby, while there behavior is much better, and there white blood cells do well.  So if the pigs health are good, is there a problem.
Well i guess others believe there still is.  So to fix this problem you would need well trained staff, much more land, more attention to pigs, and make sure there properly fed.  This in return means a much higher price in the cost of pork production.  Because some people don't like the pictures they see I now have to pay a whole lot more for my bacon.
This is one of those situation where i toss and turn around in my mind.  Though I think one solution and the best is one uncommonly thought.  Why not turn to local small production pig farmers.  What if you could drive on over to the farm, or a farm market, and farmer Ben has a cuts of pork ready for you, or he could cut some up right there.  I imagine that would lower transportation costs, selling costs, and you would end up with a much better happy pig.  This food culture needs to stop thinking on a massive scale and look more into small scale productions. The return of the Small Farmer.
Then I want to provide you with one final thought, I hear wild boar bacon is the best bacon you'll ever have.

A Crisis in Earths Time

I may not follow the global warming bandwagon all that closely or worry that the worlds going to come to a crashing end right away if we don't switch our ways and run from gas, oil, and the various pollutants we use.  Though I am a strong believer that their needs to be a harmony between man and nature, humans were never meant to dominate the globe, but since we have no natural predator we have gained control of the top of the food chain.  With this responsibility we should protect the earth and help it out.
Recently researchers wrote in the journal of nature that because of our actions we are facing a tipping point.  The thing is that the earth has a funny way to natural shaking out the problem or issue that is great effecting its environment.  The article can be found at this link http://www.accuweather.com/en/home-garden-articles/earth-and-you/tipping-point-earth-headed-for/66212
With all this in mind it starts to sink in and wonder maybe there's changes we all could make in our lives.  Which got me thinking why do we always need more money and why does minimum wage always need to go up, and its not supply and demand that is driving prices up from what they were when our parents were kids.  Maybe in some cases it is, but its this strange desire to buy things that we never needed years before.  Twenty years ago no one had cell phones, now nearly everyone does, Cost 60$ on average to a total 720$ a year!  Internet & TV bundle 80$ on average 960$ a year.  There are many other costs that we keep adding on but years ago we never spent those dollars! Therefore we had less need for that money. College a gigllion dollars now.
The reason i bring these points up is that i think we face a tipping point in lifestyle changes, one where reexamine how we live and how we act.  Now Im not saying give up cellphones and tv because I certainty have no intention on doing it myself, but i believe there are many things that we can adapt into our lives to both better nature as well as our own lives and dollars.  I will spend the years investigating new ideas, how they benefit us, nature, and yes if economically they work in our lives, because in all truth money controls our lives.  So i hope you follow my blog as I look into this new Cultural revolution that we together can start.  And please comment or suggest ideas, I'd love to hear your input.
